“How Our Experiences Could Serve as Art” This workshop explored women’s lived encounters with the architecture of refugee camps, with a particular focus on Mohammad Amin refugee camp, an unofficial Palestinian refugee camp in Amman. It aimed to examine how spatial conditions shape everyday experiences, memories, and forms of movement within the camp. Through artistic methodologies—including drawing, embodied movement, and collective reflection on the art work “Swept Over the Rug,2023—”
the workshop created a space for participants to articulate personal narratives and spatial knowledge that often remain unrecorded. The process foregrounded the body as a site of memory and positioned artistic practice as a tool for re-imagining relationships to space, agency, and belonging.
This exploration was made in collaboration with a group of ten women who reside in the camp. The workshop concluded with showcasing the work Swept Over the Rug in one of the camp’s alleys.
The workshop was carried out in cooperation with:
- Ruwwad Al Tanmeya Foundation, Jordan.
- The architect and dance expert, Randa AbuRayyan.
- The Syrian architect and artist, Khuloud Hifzy.
Supported by Arnulfska Scholarship Travel Grant - University of Gothenburg.
