Hejabāt Gathering, 2025.
Text
Another gathering brought together us, Palestinian women raised in refugee camps in diaspora, on the rooftop of a house in Mohammad Amin Refugee Camp, to wonder the objects, visual symbols, and written forms that we might use today as spiritual tools for protection against the persistent violence of colonialism. In this gathering, we sought to call forth the ancestral wisdom of our grandmothers in folk medicine, reawakening it in a space where evil spirits take the guise of colonial systems, voraciously stealing land, memory, and identity. This gathering forms part of my artistic project, which traces the biographies of materials as they move through time and space under colonial violence, exploring how objects aquire power and meaning within the lived experiences of communities under colonization.

This gathering was organized as an extension to the exploration of Hejabāt Poppy, 2025  I continue to develop this work during my residency at MMAG Foundation.
