A Deactivated Amulet for Protection from the Sultan , 2025
Clay imported from Spain, rusty iron wires from the trace of Darat al Funun. 10 x 4 cm.

An experiment in the ongoing attempts to understand material . This experiment consists of a fish - used in Arab folk medicine as protection against infertility - made from clay imported from Spain, rusty iron wires from Darat al Funun, and a talisman for protection from the Sultan taken from the manuscripts of Abu Saqr al-Shami.

This amulet is deactivated because the clay used in its formation is imported; it is not made from the trace of the thing for which it was created, and therefore, it does not function.

This work was carried out during the Summer Academy program at Darat al Funun in Amman.
